Do you experience hot flashes, fatigue, depression or anxiety? It may be a symptom of hormonal imbalance.

Hormonal imbalance in both men and women are quite common and nothing of concern. Many women start experiencing the symptoms for their 20s increasing as they reach their middle age. Hormonal imbalance causes discomfort not only to the individual but also to those around her as well.

The balance of the two hormones, estrogen and progesterone, in a woman’s body is delicate. When on hormones gets produced more than normal the other is increased too causing hormonal imbalance. Any difference in the levels of these hormones can make a lot of difference in the individual mental and physical health. The symptoms in women include psychological changes like depression, irritability and anxiety and physiological changes like weight gain, bloating, wrinkles, hair loss, acne, facial hair growth, low sex drive, head aches, PMS, fibroids, fibrocystic breasts and more. During the menstrual cycle the levels of the hormones vary in the 28 days. However, it is normal to have emotional up and downs in women (premenstrual blues) during these days with some other changes like fatigue and facial hair growth. Men in their 40’s may experience breast enlargement, weight gain, muscle or bone loss, erectile dysfunction, memory loss and so on .

contraception Reasons owing to female hormone imbalance include genetics, taking birth control pills, exposure to certain environmental and household chemicals, physical activities, stress, nutrition problems and ovulation related changes. The risk of hormone imbalance is further increased by one’s callous lifestyle and careless eating habits. Infertility, osteoporosis, heart disease, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), cancers like ovarian cancer and cervical cancer can be traced to excessive and sustained hormonal imbalance. Diabetes also can be a direct result of hormonal imbalance next to thyroid problems.

To correct hormonal imbalance…

  • Your body can stave off the complications of hormonal imbalance caused during peri-menopause and menopause times if you take a supply of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids.
  • Include soy products (soy milk, tofu etc.) in your diet to get isoflavones that can prevent the cancers.
  • Organic foods are safer than the others as they contain les of the insecticides and chemicals.
  • Limit the intake of dairy products and meats. Stick to a vegetarian diet.

A nutritious diet, regular exercise, consistent sleep patterns and healthy life style can minimize hormonal imbalance.
