We know that antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals which contribute to the development of a number of degenerative diseases and terminal conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, immune dysfunction, cataracts and macular degeneration. Amongst the carriers of antioxidants (fruits and vegetables) blueberries contain antioxidants in the highest levels. The abundance of antioxidant phytonutrients called anthocyanins makes blueberry a health bomb and perhaps a superfood.  Anthocyanin is capable of preventing cancer and fighting heart disease, and is found in highest quantities in blueberries. It also prevents aging and neurological diseases, inflammation, helps diabetes and bacterial infections including the bacteria e coli.

  1. A raw blueberry contains anthocyanin, vitamin A, C and E, B complex, beta carotene, copper, potassium, manganese, magnesium, selenium, zinc, iron and more.  If copper is a very effective anti-bacterial immune builder, our body uses iron to promote immunity by raising haemoglobin and oxygen concentration in blood. These substances also help to fortify the immunity level to prevent diseases and infections.
  2. Chlorogenic acid helps to regulate the blood sugar levels by slowing down the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal.
  3. Pterostilbene, another antioxidant found in blueberries fight cancer and may also help to lower cholesterol.
